I checked out the documentary "Spellbound" tonight. It's a really interesting look into the world of spelling bees, taken from the perspective of eight kids and their families. Truth always seems to be stranger than fiction, as was the case with one kid named Neil. His family took obsessed to a new level. He spelled 7000-8000 words a day, not to mention that he had a spelling coach who came three times a week, and tutors/teachers of Spanish, French, and Latin so that he could break down the words that originate from those languages easier. The sad thing? He didn't win.
