Random Digital Pics: April (Snow) Showers

Here it is, the first Random Digital Pics post of 2007!

This edition of Random Digital Pics deals with some snow showers...from April.

My mom looked outside today and saw that it was snowing. She said that she wished she had a video camera to record it. Snow in April in Chicago isn't unheard of, but most of the time, you don't see snow after March.

I was off from work today, so I decided to put some shoes on, grab my camera, and take some pics of the snowflakes falling outside our house.

Here are the best three pics of the ones I took:

You can't see much snow in this one, but I think it's kind of a nice picture.

Now you can see the snow.

This is my favorite of the set.

That's it for this Random Digital Pics post. If you want to see the full-size pics, click the thumbnails or visit the Picasa Web Album.

Random Digital Pics: Glass Block Beauty

I'm back with another installment of the Random Digital Pics series. This time, I'm bringing you pictures of the glass block window we had installed in our half-renovated bathroom. I will probably have pics showing the evolution of the bathroom next time around.

First up is a kind of dark pic of the entire window. Notice how much light the glass block window brings in.

Here is a closer pic which shows the window's vent in the center.

This next pic is one I'm particularly proud of. To get it, I got really close to the window and turned the camera at an angle. It almost looks like you're looking at futuristic skyscrapers.

These next two pics are a little more standard pics of the glass block.

The final two pictures of this post really give you an idea of how cool glass block is. They are closeups of the block itself where you can see the interior designs very well.

Well, this concludes another Random Digital Pics post. You can see all the pictures from my Random Digital Pics posts in my newly reorganized Picasa Web Albums.

Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving!

Mixmania Meets Random Digital Pic

Well, I received the CD from my match for Hot Mixmania today in the mail. Apart from the fact it was an international package, the person who did it took the time to decorate the case. I thought it was really cool, so I felt the need to share it with you all. Check it out:

That was the only picture I took of it that was in focus. I think the design was done with markers and it certainly stands out.

This isn't the first time I've received nicely designed Mixmania stuff. Jim always does some interesting stuff on his discs and the disc I received for the Holiday Mixmania came in a case with a handmade insert that looked like a kid's art project (in a good way). The pic I posted here on the blog is half-sized. Go to my Picasa Web Album for the full-sized pic.

Random Digital Pics: More Flowers

Here are some pics I took on the day of my father's college graduation.

First up, here is a pic of the flowers that were outside of the restaurant where we all ate at after the graduation:

Here's a picture of the sign of the restaurant:

Now, here are a couple of pictures of the other flowers we have at our home. The pictures are of a rose bush that grows on the fence right next to the house.

The first picture shows multiple flowers:

The next picture is my first attempt at a good up-close picture of something:

I took one more picture of the bush that day but it's blurry so I won't be posting it.

I hope you enjoyed this Random Digital Pics installment. I hope to eventually post some pictures of stuff other than cereal boxes and flowers.

Update: Now you can view the full-size versions of all the pics I've posted in my Random Digital Pics posts online. Visit my brand-new Picasa Web Album at http://picasaweb.google.com/sterfish/SterfishSRandomDigitalPics

Random Digital Pics: Spring Flowers

It's been a good while since my last Random Digital Pics post. Unfortunately, I haven't really been using my new digital camera as much as I would like. However, I now have some pics that are worth showing.

The following pictures are of the flowers we have in our backyard that bud every spring. Usually, it's too cold when the flowers come up and they barely last a day or two (if they ever bloom at all). This year, our area had an extended period of warm days (a period that ended a day or two ago). That meant that the flowers actually got the chance to bloom!

Here's a pic of the lilacs by themselves:

Finally, here's one of my illfated attempts to take a picture of the insides of the tulips. Not only is it out of focus, but you can see my mom's digital camera in the corner:

Random Digital Pics: “Pops Of What?”

I mentioned a while back that I would try to post some pictures now that I have a real digital camera. Now I present to you the first of the Random Digital Pics category of posts. These posts will feature pictures taken by me with commentary. There is no timetable for these posts...I will just post them whenever I take a picture I would like to share with the world.

Today’s post was more or less a request from my sister. My dad’s favorite cereal in the world is Kellogg’s Corn Pops. Because of this (and because Kellogg’s cereals go on sale frequently), we often have a box of Corn Pops in the house. However, I noticed something different about the box when we bought some recently. See if you can figure out what’s so strange about it:

Can you believe it? Corn Pops are now just...Pops. Corn Pops now joins various other sweet cereals that have had a descriptor or two removed including Sugar Frosted Flakes (Frosted Flakes), Super Golden Crisp (Golden Crisp), and Honey Smacks (Smacks). You have to actually read the ingredient list to find out that Pops are indeed made of corn and that the cereal is exactly the same. I wonder what’s next for the descriptor-drop bandwagon. How long will it be before Rice Krispies become just Krispies or Corn Flakes becomes Flakez?

I decided to take a picture of the new Pops box because upon telling my sister about it, she wanted to see a picture of what it looked like. In honor of that request, here is one more pic of the offending box:
