Album of The Week: Boards of Canada--Geogaddi

For the first album of the week of 2004, I decided to pick one of the strangest and most indescribable albums I own and enjoy. "Geogaddi" is Boards of Canada's second album, one that takes the style of the previous album and makes it a bit darker. BOC's style is hard to describe but it combines hip-hop style drums, synths, and unusual samples (everything from educational films to the sound of a ping pong ball being hit). The overall feeling of the first album, "Music Has The Right to Children," was one of childhood nostalgia. "Geogaddi" takes the tactics of the last album and makes it a bit more unsettling. My favorite song, "Dawn Chorus," sounds like a schoolbell song gone horribly wrong. So, if you are in the mood for music that is unusual, relaxing, and unsettling at the same time (or just want to hear something unlike anything you've ever heard before), try out BOC's "Geogaddi."
