Shrek 2 is 2 Funny For Words

We all saw Shrek 2 the day of my sister's graduation and I can say it's a very funny movie.

As you have seen in the commercials, it has Shrek and Fiona, now a happily married Ogre couple, getting summoned to see Fiona's parents, the King and Queen of the Kingdom of Far, Far Away. Of course, the parents are not only surprised to see their daughter look the way she does, but also to see her with Shrek. This also displeases Fairy Godmother who made a deal with Fiona's father so that her son, Prince Charming, would be with her.

I won't go into more detail and spoil the rest of the movie, but needless to say that this film is a sequel that doesn't suck. The original voices are back (with new characters voiced by Antonio Banderas, John Cleese, Julie Andrews, and Rupert Everett) and they sound just as good as ever. However, Eddie Murphy's Donkey and Antonio Banderas's Puss-In-Boots steal the show. Shrek 2 keeps its patented combination of kid-friendly humor with naughty humor that should go over most kids' heads. You'll definitely be surprised at some of the references they make in this movie, even compared with the first. Despite keeping the style of humor the same, it's great that they didn't try to make this film exactly like the first. Some of the same themes still apply (loving people for who they are) and there are some new ones (you don't need to change yourself in order to be loved). There are more gags but also a bit more emotion in this sequel.

The animation is top-notch as well. It's gotten a good amount better than the first movie. The human characters look more realistic and less stiff. The non-human characters are still vibrantly animated, and the film keeps the look from the original Shrek, with its painted-style backgrounds.

Shrek 2 is a hilarious movie in its own right, even if you haven't seen the original. It's also one of the few family films that will be more fun for the adults and teens than young children in the audience. And remember how last post I said it would make a bunch of money? Well, click the title and see that it did.
