R.I.P. Proof of D12

As many of you reading have probably heard, rapper Proof of the group D12 was shot and killed early Tuesday morning. This is the second major loss to Detroit's hip-hop scene after the passing of Jay Dee (aka J Dilla) earlier this year. According to this MTV news article, Proof was a close friend of Jay Dee and it's incredibly sad to think that now both of them are dead.

It's always quite eerie to me when fatalistic young people end up dying young. It happened to 2Pac, who frequently mentioned death. It happened to Biggie who also referenced death frequently, especially in the titles of his two studio albums, Ready To Die and Life After Death. Now, the same thing has happened to Proof. For one thing, he gets shot and is seen bleeding to death in Eminem's video for "Like Toy Soldiers." Also, I just found out from the MTV News article already mentioned that the booklet to his solo album featured images and references to dead rock stars and contained a song named after Kurt Cobain.

I send my condolences out to Proof's friends and family.
