Gotta Love The Interns

In our house, we constantly watch those MTV Digital channels. If you dont know, the channels include MTV Hits, MTV Jams, VH1 Country, VH1 Classic, and VH1 Soul. The ones we watch the most are MTV Hits, MTV Jams, and VH1 Soul. Since these channels are all videos and are commercial-free, they become goto channels for us when other shows we watch are on commercial. In general, the channels have a set rotation that includes heavy doses of current videos. This means that a popular video can be seen upwards of 10-30 times a day on TV.

Sometimes, these channels do things out of the ordinary. Once, MTV Hits had an eight day marathon of just Madonna videos and programs. Also, MTV Hits has occasionally dug deep in its archive to show pop videos from the 1980s (like Culture Club and New Kids On The Block). When this type of thing happens, we say that its because the interns are in charge. It usually happens during a holiday weekend, when its likely that the people who normally program the channel are taking time off. One such period is going on at MTV Jams where they have been showing blocks of videos by the same artist for days now. Its been a treat to see old/rarely seen videos from our favorite artists. Ive seen videos that either I havent seen in years or I havent seen at all. When the internsare in charge of these channels, the repetition and monotony of seeing the same videos over and over again is alleviated. They seem to actuallymine the massive MTV vaults for videos. Right now, these channels are the only channels routinely showing videos that are not current and they even show some current videos that I havent seen anywhere else...ever.

I really like having these channels. I love music and music videos. I hope the interns pop up a bit more often over 2005 and show those videos Ive been dying to see again.
