Scary Movie 3 is Scary For The Wrong Reasons

I really enjoyed the original Scary Movie. From the warped minds of the Wayans Brothers, it balanced some dead-on parodies of slasher flicks with good old-fashioned grossout humor. The second one wasn’t nearly as good and it felt rushed. Now comes Scary Movie 3, which doesn’t have the Wayans’ involvement at all. In fact, the pedigree on this sequel is very good. The people involved basically created the spoof genre. They brought us such funny movies as Airplane!, Top Secret, Hot Shots, and The Naked Gun films. Maybe all their creativity is gone, as this sequel wasn’t all that good.

That’s not to say that it’s completely bad. This sequel parodies movies ranging from The Ring and Signs to 8 Mile. It actually has a good amount of funny moments. I cracked up at the opening scenes with Pamela Anderson and Jenny McCarthy. I also liked some of the more subtle, random gags. For example, take a look at Camryn Manheim’s hat in one scene for a laugh. Also, the cast is great, featuring Anna Faris and Regina Hall from the last two Scary Movie films, Charlie Sheen, Anthony Anderson, Leslie Nielsen, and short appearances by Queen Latifah, Eddie Griffin, George Carlin, and SNL’s Darrell Hammond. It’s a shame, however, that many of the gags miss the mark badly. This movie felt like a bad, later episode of The Simpsons. You do laugh at stuff sometimes, but you will more likely say to yourself “Huh?” and marvel at how bizarre it is.

Watching this, I want to see White Chicks, the movie the Wayans Brothers did instead of Scary Movie 3. I will bet money it will be at least 10 times funnier than Scary Movie 3 is.

If you're going to talk about Scary Movie 3 you can't forget to mention the aliens and the two twenties.
